New York nursing jobs are thriving! In 2006, New York State had 199,834 Registered Nurses, and the counties that make up New York City were home to 54,318 of them. Despite these large numbers, the populous NYC region needs more RNs! According to a regional occupational outlook for 2004-2014, the NYC Region will experience a total annual average of 2,630 RN openings.

So what, approximately, does a nurse make who works in the city that in 2006 was cited by the Mercer Human Resources Consulting report as the most expensive city in the USA? According to payscale.com, the median salary for an RN is $62,265. Looking at salary.com, a general RN at 25th percentile earns $64,218, while an RN at the 90th percentile earns $80,741. Those who specialize in ICU earn between $64,294 and $82,425, while NPs earn $85,637 - $107,173.
